Time on his Ants

The way I figure Solomon must have been a lot like me.  He was the wisest, richest man who ever lived.  In that, he's nothing like me, or perhaps, he and I have more in common than I previously thought.

Although he had a busy schedule, with  all of his building,  and seeking of new loves of his life, greeting foreign dignitaries, and keeping up with his multitude of wives; he took the time to consider things.  He wrote of ants, and how it was they harvested food, built their homes, and worked cooperatively.  Although there are only a few words about them, I can well imagine how much time he spent and can imagine this king lying on the ground, gazing into an ant mound.

The thought of this very wise king, taking a break from his extremely demanding schedule speaks louder to me than the lesson of the ants.

It speaks of the process of taking time, as if time were something we could pluck off a shelf.  We don't really get to "take" it,  it's just there.  Rather it's what we choose to do with our allotment of it, and in this case, for Solomon the king, it was about gaining insight from one of the tiny creatures.  He chose to spend a little bit of time, communing with his own thoughts, musing, and reasoning.

Each one of us, whether we be King, or pauper, has the same allotment of time in the course of a day.  24 hours, 1440 minutes,  86,400 seconds.

Perhaps for a few seconds, or maybe we could stretch it into minutes, we could find a small thing to consider.  The value of this process is infinite to us.  It gives us depth, it defines who we are, and enables us to face another day with a smile, and rather than be defeated, we are the victors!

All because we took time to consider something small.....like ants.

A good hug "takes" about 20 seconds.....but what it "gives" is limitless!
